Just working on the next post, but I wanted to take a quick moment to alert you to a wonderful upcoming workshop opportunity.
Remember the post I wrote about making cold frames? Well, for those of you in Toronto with an interest in year-round growing, the amazing Kyla Dixon-Muir is hosting a “Cold Frames In Action Tour” on Saturday December 4th in the afternoon!! I couldn’t recommend Kyla’s workshops more highly, so if you’re looking for inspiration and knowledge on the topic, and are in the Toronto area, this isn’t to be missed!
I’ve pasted the details, as per the Riverdale Meadows website, here…
Saturday 4 December 2010, 2pm to 4pm
ColdFrames In Action Tour
Join in and be amazed! See a range of new frames using new materials and unique design applications, in newly developed micro-climates. Taste the freshest local heritage and heirloom greens, and learn more about Kyla Dixon-Muir’s Hundred Footstep Diet at Riverdale Meadow Community Garden!
Location: City Adult Learning Centre, 1 Danforth Ave.,
(West of Broadview Avenue, South side of Danforth)
The garden is south of the rear parking lot, back of all school buildings.
TDSB bylaws prohibit animals on school property, so please do not bring pets. Thank you.
By car or bike: The driveway into CALC is immediately at the East end of Prince Edward Viaduct (bridge with luminous veil above the Don Valley) where Bloor St. becomes Danforth Ave., (If you’re crossing the bridge eastbound, this driveway is west of the on-ramp to DVP Northbound – drive slowly.) Take the driveway all the way back of all buildings to the fenced-in parking lot. The garden is on the far side of this lot’s fence.
By TTC, or on foot: There is a walkway along the east side of the school’s property, west of Pizza-Pizza. Use the pedestrian crossway by the DVP on-ramp (Royal Drive). Pass the greenhouse, keep walking south of all buildings, enter the parking lot; the garden gate is on the south fence of the parking lot. As there are 2 staircases that may be snow- or ice-covered, use caution. See our Membership pages for a Google map.
An advisal will be posted on the garden’s website by 9:00 a.m. the morning of the tour, IF it becomes necessary to postpone the tour to the next day, Sunday 5 December, (same times, 2pm to 4pm) due to inhospitable weather.
