My high school biology teacher used to assign us work and then get out his instrument like this, but w/o the wash tub. It was a broom stick/rubber band contraption, which played by being strummed but also by being thumped on the floor. It also had a great number of bottle caps nailed into it, kind of loosely all up and down the stick, on really big nails. When a person played it you thumped it, plucked it, and rattled the bottle caps on it all at once. One yodeled along as much as one sang to it. As ingenious as it was, I don’t recall anyone especially appreciating biology class….
